Not much longer...

Well, I am still working on the top ten lists that I promised I would make up for movie genres. And let me tell you... it has been a lot harder than I anticipated it to be!! There are so many movies that I have seen and that I like, but to pick my FAVORITES from each genre is very difficult. Slowly but surely I am making it through and will deliver my lists to you fine people within the next week.

I will be posting my top ten favorite movies from each of these genres: Drama, Comedy, Romance, Musicals, Sci-fi/Fantasy, Action, Horror, Family and Thrillers. The "thriller" genre ended up being included because there were a few movies that didn't completely fit in other categories so my thriller genre consists of mystery/suspense thrillers, action thrillers (but not enough action to fit into the "action" genre) and creepy thrillers (but not creepy enough to be considered "horror").

How am I coming up with my top ten favorites from each category? Well, to make it on my list a movie has to be enjoyable and have the appeal to be watched over and over again without my getting sick of it. A lot of the movies aren't the best made films but they have personal connections in some way to my life. Whether they remind me of occurrences that have happened to me or if I have some sort of memory tied to them they may make it on my lists.

I am in no way claiming that these are the best movies of all time. I am just pointing out some of my favorite movies and why I like them, because one of my least favorite questions to be asked is "Becky, whats your favorite movie?". The answer to that is: I don't know!! I like lots of movies and it's hard to pick a favorite. So that's my little disclaimer.

The lists will be delivered soon. Promise.

Movies You Probably Haven't Seen...

As most of you know, I'm a pretty big film viewer. Cinema Studies is my minor and most of my life I've wanted to work in film. So needless to say, I watch a lot of movies. For fun I've been trying to compile a top ten list of my favorite movies in each genre and over the next two weeks I will post those lists here.

My first list is NOT a top ten list, I just realized that I have seen a lot of random movies in my life and some of them are movies most normal non film people have never seen or even heard of. So for fun I thought I'd list them here. I would like to thank my dad for introducing me to most of these :)

As to those who I know read my blog: Eric, you are an avid film viewer and since one day we will make a movie together I recommend all of these movies to you. I know your taste in film from what I've read of your blog and I know you will enjoy most of these. Andrew, you're in a few of my film classes and it seems like you like some films that are out of the ordinary so I recommend these to you as well. Kevin Smith, I know you have seen some of these because I have had a few film classes with you as well, you would probably enjoy some of these immensely... probably. Annie, I don't know if you would like some of these because I'm not sure what your gross out factor is Cemetery Man might be a little too odd or gross but I know you're awesome so if Eric checks any of these out... then you should too. Everyone else... if you like movies that are a little out there, not Oscar material but still enjoyable none the less then check these out.

Ravenous (1999)
A delectable film aboout cannibalism.

Dellamorte Dellamore (1994)
American title: Cemetery Man. You'll never look at Rupert Everett the same way again. An often overlooked zombie dark comedy. Evil Dead fans... check this one out.

They Call Me Trinity (1970)
A hilarious spaghetti western that I came to love as a child. Its a really bad movie and probably everyone else in the world hates it but me and my dad. haha

Trinity Is Still My Name (1971)
The outlaws are back... a decent sequel to follow up the first film. :) Once again... hilarious but still really bad.

Clash of the Titans (1981)
Not a well made movie... at all. Probably why they are re-making it. But it is a classic. I grew up with this movie and even though its bad, its good... if that makes any sense.

Drop Dead Fred (1991)
One of my favorite movies of all time. Laugh out loud funny. When I was little I would pretend that Drop Dead Fred was my imaginary friend. They are thinking of re-making this movie with Russell Brand as Fred... which in my opinion would be a good fit. It wasn't until I was older and rewatched this that I realized how many dirty jokes there were in this film!

Westworld (1973)
Excellent sci-fi thriller! I highly recommend this one if you haven't seen it. The Simpsons parodies this movie in one of their episodes where the robots at Itchy and Scratchy Land malfunction and run amuck.

They Live (1988)
An awesome cult classic sci-fi film starring 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. It is actually a very good film with an underlying message. Not to mention it contains one of the best fights of all time!! It has several awesome memorable quotes including the best known: "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum." Go watch this movie... right now.

Night of the Lepus (1972)
This movie is terrible and poorly made and acted BUT it terrified me as a child. Giant, killer bunnies. It stars Janet Leigh (the woman who gets hacked up in Psycho and Jamie Leigh Curtis' mother).

Crazy People (1990)
This movie is pretty hit or miss with people. I watched it in one of my media classes at Washtenaw C.C. If you don't understand the humor, you'll hate it.

The Dream Team (1989)
I watched this movie in psychology class in high school. Its hilarious! Michael Keaton, Christopher LLoyd, and Peter Boyle are fantastic. Four patients from the nut house witness a crime and are left wandering the streets of New York... I wonder what kind of trouble they can get in!! :)

Waterloo Bridge (1940)
I caught this movie on TCM about a month ago at 3am when my insomnia was keeping me up. Its a very different romantic story but I really loved it. Not to mention Robert Taylor is pretty hot :) Its one of those man meets woman... they fall in love... he gets deployed... she thinks hes dead but hes not... then he comes back. Although there is a twist. I won't spoil it for you but its quite interesting. And its funny how they got around the production code in this film.

Duel (1971)
An early Steven Spielberg film. Its a very simple concept, a crazy semi-truck driver is trying to run this guy off the road. Good movie :)

The Last Starfighter (1984)
I read this book when I was younger and I loved the movie. Its on TV a lot. This movie proves that video games can come in handy sometimes... they can help you save the universe.

Harvey (1950)
In my mind, how can you go wrong with Jimmy Stewart and a giant invisible rabbit? This is a heartwarming funny movie and its worth being checked out if you are a fan of Jimmy Stewart.

The Children (1980)
When I was 4 or 5 my dad went out to the store or the gas station or something and I was flipping through the television channels and came across what I could remember as the scariest movie I had ever seen, and I only saw about five minutes of it. I didn't know what it was called all I knew was that it was about kids and that when they touched you, you died. Well a couple of months ago I was looking through some Netflix watch instantly movies and came across this one... IT WAS THE MOVIE I SAW AS A KID!! So I watched it, ready to be terrified and basically laughed throughout the entire movie. I guess they were right when they said most horror films are terrible 'B' movies.

The Poseidon Adventure (1972)
This film was remade and called "Poseidon" a couple of years ago and it sucked. The original was MUCH better... but thats the way it always is right? I watched this movie growing up and it always put me on edge even though I knew what was going to happen. Great cast and great movie! What would you do if your cruise ship capsized and you couldn't get out?

The Beastmaster (1982)
Well, I love animals so a fantasy movie about a guy who can talk to them was awesome when I was growing up!! Though, I feel bad for the tiger in the movie cause they painted him black. If you like 1980s sci-fi/fantasy movies (oh, you know those are the best kind) you'll like this movie. Its much better (in my opinion) than that stupid TV series they made about this movie.

So, there it is. My list of completely random movies that I've seen that many other people have never even heard of. Most of them are "awesomely bad" movies but some of them are legit. If you check any of them out or have seen any of them before let me know!! :)

The Jig is Up

I am confessing. Girls are crazy... all of them. I want everyone to know it and I want you to know that we are FULLY aware that we can be crazy and irrational. The thing is... we can't stop it. Sometimes I'll be mad at someone and I just have so much rage and I'm thinking in my head "Wow, Becky, this is completely irrational and it's dumb for you to be mad." But I can't stop it and it happens anyway.

OK, now that I got that off my chest, I am saying this here because its the closest I can come to putting it in writing and you all are my witnesses. I vow that I am going to try to be more trusting and not second guess everything that people say. I always over think EVERYTHING and always worry that the worst is going to happen.

I have known some pretty crappy people in my life and have leftover trust issues from it. I have since realized that if I can't trust certain people it's going to push them away, and that's something that I don't want.

Story Time
I was hanging out with a friend of mine the other night and I hadn't seen him since October, we've talked a little off and on but it just wasn't the same. Any time that we had any kind of interaction it was because I initiated it. So naturally I thought that he didn't want to be friends with me but I was afraid to say that to him.

Well, on Saturday night I texted him just to chit-chat and tell him that I missed our conversations and I asked him if we were still friends and he said "Of course, just because we're both busy doesn't mean we aren't friends." And then he suggested we hang out sometime this week.

When we hung out everything was great! We always have no problem talking and there are never any awkward silences and we always have a blast just being in each other's company. Well towards the end of the night after a few drinks had been consumed, I decided to be really open. I told him that it bothered me that I was always the one trying to keep in touch and it made me feel like he didn't want to talk to me or see me. I even told him straight up "Don't worry about my feelings. If you don't want to be friends, I'll get over it. Just don't string me along and pretend. I have too many fake friends and I don't need another one." <---- that's where my crazy girlness came in. I was totally overreacting.

Then we had a nice long chat about why I valued him as a friend (hes easy to talk to, I don't feel like he judges me, we have the same taste in music, he listens to me vent and gives me honest advice, we have a great time together and blah blah blah). He reassured me that it really is just because he's extremely busy with work. Which I know is true, I've been to his workplace and I know what he has to deal with, especially this time of year. He told me he really hopes that I can believe that it has nothing to do with me and that once things slow down he'd love to hang out more... plus it doesn't help that we live and hour and a half apart.

I believe him in all of this. It was hard for me to at first... just because of old habits of negativity. But when I think about it, we hung out for several hours and he pointed that out at the end of the night, he said, "If I didn't want to hang out with you, I could have made up some excuse to leave a long time ago." Plus when it came to saying goodbye he wouldn't release his bear hug grip on me and he promised me he wouldn't let it be this long before he saw me again. So all my over thinking and being crazy... is really just ME being CRAZY.

After having this talk with him, I felt bad because I always let this happen to myself. I over think everything and think something is wrong with me. It needs to stop or else I am going to annoy the crap outta the people who mean something to me and push them away for real. So I'm done. As of now, no more over reacting, over thinking or being irrational or crazy. I am really going to struggle to be trusting of people and I think if I do all that it will make me happier and definitely less stressed.

I doubt anyone read that ^ entire novel I wrote lol but as I disclaimed in my very first post... this blog was created for the purpose of venting so... vent over.

On a side note. March Madness is making me angry, the first round has completely messed up two of the three brackets I've filled out >:(

wow... just wow

This lovely woman is Megan Barnes. She was involved in a car crash in the Florida Keys last week. Its another case of distracted driving... but this woman wasn't texting... she was shaving... her pubes.

Here is the story I found as reported by KeyNews.com:

KEY WEST: A woman shaving her bikini area while driving caused a car accident on Cudjoe Key, near Key West, according to a report in keysnews.com.

Troopers told the reporter that 37-year-old Megan Mariah Barnes was meeting her boyfriend in Key West and wanted to be properly groomed for the visit.

So during the drive, she decided to shave.

Her ex-husband, who was in the passenger's seat, took the wheel while she focused on other areas, according to the report.

The site also noted that Barnes was convicted of DUI and driving without a license the day before the crash.

The vehicle she was driving struck another car from behind, causing minor injuries to the occupants.

The report says she and her ex-husband drove another half-mile after the crash and switched seats, so it looked like he was driving.

But burns on his chest from the passenger-side airbag sank their story – since the site reports the driver's airbag wasn't deployed by the impact.

Troopers charged Barnes with driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a wreck with injuries and driving with no insurance.

A trooper told keysnews.com he thought another incident in the same general area was the strangest traffic incident he'd ever see – but this topped it.

Windows 7... you are not my friend right now!

Tomorrow will be my last day of Spring Break. I have the day off today and I had a list of things that I needed to do that I couldn't do earlier on in the week such as grocery shopping, hair cut, work out and write a short essay.

Well I finally got my bridge card reactivated after having to deal with an immense number of problems with the DHS Office. So since I actually have food money I was going to go grocery shopping. I found some coupons online for some of the items that I usually get and I was going to print them off. One problem: Since I bought my new laptop I hadn't installed my old printer on it yet.

Doesn't seem like too huge of a problem right? I didn't think so either until I plugged it in and it failed while attempting to install. I did some research online and found out that I needed to install a driver on my computer to get the printer to install on Windows 7, my printer doesn't have a driver for windows 7 but it has one for Vista so they wanted me to run in compatibility mode and yadda yadda yadda...

ANYWAY bottom line: IT DIDN'T WORK! Its not such a big deal for the coupon thing but I need to be able to print at home (b/c its free and convenient) for class assignments. I still have ink and all that crap for my old printer but now it looks like I need to go out and buy a new printer. I'm so mad!!

If anyone reads this who is computer software savvy could you please help me out with my compatibility issue... I need advice and don't want to waste money on a new printer. :(

Introductions

Hello there!

I started this blog because I believe it will help me to vent and stress less about the big changes coming up in my life.

"What changes?", you may ask, well in about two months I will be graduating from college and entering the real world. And, I. am. terrified!!

The past year has been crazy. Last summer I interned at a mid-Michiagn news station and LOVED it, I moved into an awesome apartment with my boyfriend, I auditioned and got an anchor position at my school's news station, I met Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC, my almost four year relationship ended, my ex eventually moved out, I became "the other girl", I had several close calls at work, lost 30 lbs, re-took and finally passed broadcast law and all that was before 2010 started!

Since January, things have been less crazy but I am currently living alone and paying my bills on time (yay!), taking my final classes of my college career, anchoring twice a week for the college news station, preparing my demo tape and resume and hopfully soon will start applying for jobs.

I decided to stay pretty vague on the details of things listed above because I'm sure as time goes on and I update this blog it will call for some storytelling so I don't want to spoil the suprise haha.

Needless to say the next several months will be scary and exciting and nerve-racking but I'm looking forward to tackling everything that comes my way, and hopefully with the support of this blog I will survive it all without going crazy!
